Senior Hamas leader: Unreasonable Israeli demands thwarted negotiations.

DOHA, Aug. 10 (YPA) – Senior Hamas leader, Osama Hamdan, said on Sunday that efforts made by the Egyptian and Qatari mediators were continuing at an intense pace, but have not yet achieved any tangible results.

He held the Israeli occupation primarily responsible for the failure of the negotiations due to what he described as “unacceptable demands”.

In a televised interview, Hamdan explained that the media outlets were focused on the American role, which is attempting to cover up its failure by placing blame on the Palestinian side, when in fact, it was the Israeli occupation that caused the collapse of the talks.

He pointed out that what happened in Doha represented a reasonable agreement acceptable to all parties, but that Washington and Tel Aviv backed away from agreed-upon commitments, leading to the collapse of the negotiating process.

The Hamas leader revealed that the movement had proposed a comprehensive deal more than a year ago, including a halt to the aggression on Gaza, a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces, the opening of the crossings, and the reconstruction of the Strip, along with a prisoner exchange deal. However, the occupation withdrew from this initiative, while the US administration pushed for a three-stage plan that also failed due to the Israeli occupation’s position.

“The resistance’s weapons are a legitimate right of the Palestinian people as long as the occupation persists,” Hamdan added. “Any future political solution must be based on the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with a monopoly on arms.”
