HADRAMOUT, July 31 (YPA) – The head of the Saudi-backed Hadramout Tribal Alliance, Amr bin Habrish, reviewed the graduation of the first batch of “Hadramout Protection Forces” in the Hadramout province on Thursday.
The alliance published photos of the graduation of the first batch of the so-called “First Hadramout Protection Brigade,” aiming to enhance security, stability, and the “self-governance” declared by the alliance last April.
The alliance, with Saudi support, is moving toward imposing a political partnership and reclaiming the rights of the people of Hadramout by seeking so-called administrative independence in the province, away from forces loyal to the Saudi-led coalition.
In this context, observers believe that the alliance leader’s offer to the “Hadramout Protection” factions constitutes a strong message targeting the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), which has repeatedly threatened to invade the districts of Hadramout valley.
The alliance’s actions, which began in July 2024, came within the framework of coordination between Saudi Arabia and the head of the Leadership Council, Rashad al-Alimi, with the aim of ending the role of UAE-funded factions in the districts of the Hadramout coast. These movements saw the deployment of armed coalition forces to the entrances to the city of Mukalla, which is under the control of UAE-backed forces.
It is worth noting that Saudi authorities detained Hadramout Governor Mabkhout bin Madi in Riyadh after his invitation last April. He was accused of complicity in facilitating the entry of approximately 3,000 STC members into the coastal districts.
This situation has allowed the alliance to move smoothly without encountering any significant obstacles, despite worsening living and service conditions, including power outages lasting more than 13 hours a day, compared to only two hours of electricity supply.
