In Video: UAE forces fire bullets at Shihr protests in Hadramout

HADRAMOUT, July 31 (YPA) – Emirati factions fired live ammunition, on Thursday, at popular protests in the city of Shihr, the center of the coastal district of Ghayl Bawazir in Hadramout Governorate, eastern Yemen.

A well-informed local source in the city reported that the “security support” elements brought in by the UAE forces command from Lahj and Al-Dhale’e fired live ammunition with various types of light and medium weapons at the protesters demanding electricity and water services.

The source reported that the elements failed to disperse the angry demonstrators for the fifth consecutive day, after the UAE forces command stationed at Al Rayyan Airport prevented fishermen in Shihr from entering the sea to fish for the past years, considering it a closed military zone.

He indicated that the youth of Shihr and Ghayl Bawazir threatened to block the coastal road linking Hadramout and Al Mahrah from transporting tankers and trucks until their demands are met by the coalition-affiliated government.

It is worth noting that the city of Shihr is located between the Al-Dabbah oil port and Al-Rayyan Airport, which the UAE has transformed into a joint military base with American and British forces on the Arabian Sea since its control of Al-Mukalla under the pretext of fighting Al-Qaeda in 2016.
