Taxi driver killed, women, children wounded in Shabwa attack

SHABWA, Sept. 23 (YPA) – A taxi driver was killed and two women and a girl were seriously wounded Wednesday in an armed attack on the road linking Bayhan and Ataq, the capital of Shabwa province in eastern Yemen, which is controlled by Saudi-backed forces.

A local source  reported that tribal gunmen ambushed a taxi carrying women and children from the Al-Faraj tribe near Bir Al-Jafiya in the Al-Dhulmain area, opening fire on the vehicle.

The source said the family was heading to Ataq for medical treatment when tribal gunmen opened fire on them over a blood feud with the Al-Faraj tribe.

The two women and the girl suffered multiple serious injuries, the source said, amid widespread anger among Shabwa tribes over the attack on the Al-Faraj family.

The incident came amid unprecedented security chaos across Shabwa’s districts, where security and military affairs have been overseen by Saudi envoy Musleh Al-Otaibi since early 2016 in the absence of state authorities.
