Government Media Office in Gaza warns of humanitarian disaster threatening lives of more than 40,000 infants

GAZA, July 28 (YPA) – The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip warned, on Monday, of an imminent humanitarian disaster threatening the lives of more than 40,000 infants, as a result of the Israeli occupation’s continued ban on the entry of baby formula into the Strip for more than 150 days, in a “silent crime of genocide.”

In a statement, the media office said: “The Strip is on the verge of an unprecedented humanitarian disaster,” in light of the occupation’s continued imposition of a stifling blockade and systematic ban on baby formula, exposing tens of thousands of children under the age of one to a “slow death.”

The statement called for the immediate and unconditional opening of the crossings, and for the entry of baby formula and urgent relief aid, holding the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the lives of infants.

The statement held the countries involved in the genocide responsible, and the international community, which remains silent about an ongoing crime that threatens the lives of innocents.

This warning comes in the context of a worsening humanitarian crisis in the Strip, whereas health and humanitarian organizations, including the World Health Organization, have previously warned of the increase in deaths resulting from malnutrition and poor healthcare among children.

The occupation deliberately prevents the entry of basic materials, including infant formula, as part of a starvation policy used as a political pressure card, amid growing international disregard.

Previously, the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced the death of infant Muhammad Ibrahim Adas due to malnutrition and a lack of infant formula, bringing the number of famine victims to 147 since the beginning of the crisis, including 88 children.
