Scottish National Party calls on Britain to recognize State of Palestine

EDINBURGH, July 13 (YPA) – The Scottish National Party (SNP) called on the British government to stop making excuses and follow other European countries in recognizing the State of Palestine.

The party’s statements come after a speech delivered by French President Emmanuel Macron during his recent official visit to the United Kingdom, in which he said that recognizing the State of Palestine is “the only path to peace,” according to the British PA Media agency.

The party also called for an end to arms sales to “Israel,” saying that the government’s failure to “use the power it has” to end the conflict in Gaza would make it “completely complicit” in what it described as a “massacre.”

Brendan O’Hara, the SNP’s Middle East spokesman, said that if the British government had “an ounce of condemnation and courage, it would have the power to act.”

He continued: “Having witnessed another week of carnage, Labour can and must begin this new week by taking two concrete steps.”

O’Hara added, “They must begin this new week by halting all arms sales to Israel and finally recognizing the State of Palestine.”
