Women’s revolution to kick off in Aden against collapse of basic services

TAIZ, July 04 (YPA) – Popular protests will kick off on Saturday in Aden city and several southern provinces, which coalition is controlling, against the collapse of living standards and the lack of basic services.

A statement issued by activists in the “Women’s Revolution” confirmed that the protests,” is to take place in Al-Mualla Street in Aden, Al-Hawtah area of the capital of Lahj province, and cities of Zinjibar and Shaqra of Abyan province.

The statement added the protests would demand that “the coalition-backed Aden government to provide basic services such as electricity, water, health, education, and the payment of suspended salaries, as well as improve living conditions by serious economic reforms.

It explained that the protests to give voice to the oppressed citizens who are dying silently inside their homes from the intense heat caused by power outages and the hunger that is ravaging them due to rising prices.

The statement called on women in the southern provinces to take to the streets and actively participate in demonstrations to secure their rights and defend the future of their children.

The women’s revolution in Aden has been expanded to Lahj and Abyan, amid calls for a women’s protest demonstration next Sunday in the city of Taiz.

This comes amid escalating popular anger against the Aden government due to its imposition of starvation policies and a war on services, which have plunged citizens in these areas into unprecedented catastrophic conditions.

The women’s revolution in Aden began last May following a widespread arrest campaign by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council factions that targeted dozens of activists and youth during the suppression of protests demanding to improve electricity and to end the ongoing collapse of the Yemeni riyal.
