ADEN, June 29 (YPA) – Fierce clashes erupted around Al-Ma’ashiq Palace in Aden following attempts by Rashad Al-Alimi, the head of the “Presidential Leadership Council”, loyal to the Saudi-led coalition to remove the” Asifah Brigade” forces from the site.
He had issued a sudden directive to transfer security responsibilities to a brigade affiliated with the “Dera Al-Watan” forces, led by his son.
The Asifah Brigade, which has been responsible for the palace’s security for years, rejected the order.
Informed sources reported that Al-Alimi’s decision led to armed confrontations and intense exchanges of gunfire — a move believed to be an attempt by Al-Alimi to strengthen the influence of his family and security apparatus amid growing fears that this reshuffle is part of a broader power struggle over control of Aden.
Speculation is mounting over President Al-Alimi’s decision to remove forces aligned with the UAE, as no official explanation has been provided regarding the motives behind the move or the measures being taken to contain the escalating tensions.
