NEW YORK, May 31 (YPA)- The United Nations has warned that the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip has reached its most critical point since the start of the ongoing genocidal war by “Israel’, which began in October 2023.
Speaking at a press briefing last night, Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, highlighted the deteriorating conditions in Gaza, stating that the war and the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza are continuing unabated.
Dujarric cited reports from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), which confirmed that the situation has never been worse in terms of humanitarian need and suffering.
He also addressed recent developments, including the forced evacuation of Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza by Israeli occupation forces and the ongoing displacement of civilians. Approximately 200,000 people have been forcibly displaced over the past two weeks alone.
Dujarric stressed that the need for humanitarian aid has reached “unprecedented levels” after more than 80 days of almost complete Israeli blockade on aid deliveries.
He added that the limited quantities of aid currently allowed into the Gaza Strip are “woefully insufficient” to support the 2.1 million people in desperate need of life-saving assistance.
