Saudi officers killed, wounded in Sanaa attack on Yemen’s Mocha

SANAA, Aug. 09 (YPA) – In a notable military development, informed sources reported Sunday evening that Saudi officers were killed and wounded in the latest attack carried out by Sanaa-based armed forces against the Mocha area on Yemen’s western coast.

According to the sources, the targeted sites continued to witness successive explosions and rising columns of smoke, particularly around weapons depots and military positions that came under attack, amid reports of significant human and material losses.

The developments appeared to reinforce earlier information circulated by local and Arab media regarding the accuracy of intelligence cited by Sanaa forces in their military statement earlier Sunday.

The statement said the operation targeted Saudi military concentrations and weapons depots in Mocha using large numbers of missiles and drones.

Sanaa forces said the operation destroyed weapons and military equipment and resulted in dozens of casualties among the targeted forces, including Saudi personnel.

The statement also said Sanaa forces would continue monitoring and tracking military movements and concentrations and directly targeting them, while stressing that it would not allow efforts aimed at targeting the Yemeni people or drawing Yemenis into conflicts serving foreign agendas.

Observers said the sequence of recent strikes in Hadramout, Marib and Mokha could indicate that Sanaa forces possess detailed intelligence on the nature, size and deployment of the military concentrations, particularly given the focus on troop assembly points, weapons depots and military equipment.

They added that the precision and repeated strikes across multiple fronts raise questions about Saudi military movements inside Yemen and whether the operations represent early deterrence measures aimed at preventing attempts to open wider fronts in the coming period.

The western coast therefore appears to be facing a new military test as developments on the ground intersect with highly sensitive political calculations, with attention focused on what the coming hours may reveal about the scale of the losses and the nature of the military movements targeted in the operation.
