ICC Prosecutor rejects Israel’s request to cancel arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Galant
THE HAGUE, May 22 (YPA) – Prosecutors at the International Criminal Court (ICC) have asked the court’s judges to reject the Israeli occupation authorities’ request to revoke the arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Galant.
In a 10-page memorandum published on the court’s website late Wednesday, they also requested that Tel Aviv’s request to suspend the investigation into the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories be rejected.
On November 21, 2024, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Galant on charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians during the genocide in Gaza.
In the memorandum, the prosecutors noted the Israeli authorities’ request on May 9, 2025, for the court’s Pre-Trial Chamber I to withdraw or revoke the arrest warrants issued against Netanyahu and Galant.
They also noted her request to suspend the prosecution’s investigation into the situation in Palestine until the court’s Pre-Trial Chamber I decides on the Israeli judicial appeal. The prosecutors concluded that Israel’s request “has no legal basis.”
It should be noted that the Israeli entity is not a member of the ICC, while the State of Palestine is.
