OCCUPIED QUDS, May 20 (YPA) – Hebrew media have highlighted the resumption of operations at Sanaa International Airport, nearly 10 days after it was subjected to a devastating Israeli attack.
This comes at a time when air traffic at Israeli “Ben Gurion Airport” (Lod Airport) has been reduced to an unprecedented degree.
The Hebrew “Times of Israel” website reported that what it described as “the Houthis’ success” in resuming flights to and from Sanaa airport represents a remarkable development.
Last Saturday, the Yemeni airport witnessed the departure of four flights to and from the Jordanian capital, Amman, despite the extensive damage it sustained as a result of the Israeli bombing.
The website’s report explained that Sanaa Airport is primarily used for limited flights by Yemenia Airlines, in addition to receiving UN humanitarian flights. “Israel targeted it with intensive airstrikes on May 6 and 7, in response to attacks claimed by Sanaa against Ben Gurion Airport and vital targets in the interior and north.”
The Hebrew website indicated that initial estimates indicate that the Israeli airstrikes almost completely destroyed the airport’s infrastructure, with losses estimated at approximately $500 million, according to official Yemeni sources.
In contrast, the website stated that Ben Gurion International Airport is facing “widespread reluctance by foreign airlines,” due to escalating security tensions and fears of being targeted in the context of the attacks targeting Israeli territory since the outbreak of the war on Gaza in October 2023.
These developments come amid the expanding conflict in the region, with Sanaa forces continuing to target Israeli positions at sea and on land, and their insistence on linking any truce to a halt to the aggression against the Gaza Strip.
