Trump administration withholds funding from Harvard university

SANAA, May 20 (YPA) – The administration of US President Donald Trump announced a new withholding of approximately $60 million in federal funding from Harvard University due to what it deemed its failure to take sufficient action against pro-Palestine student demonstrations.

In a post on the X platform on Tuesday, the US Department of Health and Human Services announced that it would withhold approximately $60 million in federal funding allocated to Harvard University to protect civil rights in higher education.

The department claimed that Harvard, which stood out among the universities that witnessed demonstrations in support of Palestine, failed to address anti-Semitic attitudes and race-based discrimination.

The US administration is using financial cuts and investigations into universities to pressure their administrations to prevent student demonstrations in support of Palestine.

In the face of this federal threat, Harvard University announced its rejection of Trump’s demands for “reforms” within the university.

A number of university professors also filed lawsuits against the Trump administration’s decision to investigate federal funding allocated to the university.
