ALQUDS, May 18 (YPA) – The Israeli occupation forces launched on Sunday a campaign to recalled on the PTSD-affected soldiers and other psychological conditions to fight in Gaza.
The call came amid sparking widespread controversy over the safety of these soldiers and their ability to perform their military duties, in addition to a severe shortage of manpower.
According to a report to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the reserve soldiers suffering from severe mental health disorders were called up for service despite prior medical warnings that they were unsuitable for military service.
” Over 17,000 injured soldiers, including 9,000 with psychological illnesses, are being treating by the Ministry of Defense’s rehabilitation department as a result of the genocidal war in Gaza, ” the newspaper said. A least 35 active-duty soldiers have committed suicide since the beginning of the genocidal war in Gaza.”
It added: “The occupation army, which is facing challenges in recruiting a sufficient number of soldiers, has begun reviewing the files of reserve soldiers who were previously discharged for medical reasons, including mental disorders, with the aim of reassessing their suitability for service.”
“This trend has raised concerns among psychological experts and the soldiers’ families, who fear that the psychological state of the soldiers involved will deteriorate and that they may be exposed to further pressures that could lead to tragic outcomes,” the Haaretz stated.
This case highlights the challenges facing the Israeli occupation forces in light of the manpower shortage and the need to balance national security requirements with the psychological well-being of soldiers.
