SANAA, May 17 (YPA) – The American newspaper, The New York Times, confirmed in a report, on Saturday, that Israel continues to suffer heavy losses in its war on Gaza, without having been able so far to achieve its stated goal of releasing prisoners or defeating Hamas.
The newspaper explained in its report that despite the heavy losses incurred by the Israeli military campaign, the fighting has not succeeded in decisively defeating Hamas or forcing the movement to release all prisoners, pointing out that last January, the two sides agreed to a ceasefire that lasted for nearly two months before collapsing in mid-March, causing Israel to announce the intensification of its war on the Strip.
The newspaper also highlighted the suffering of the Gaza Strip, as the United Nations warned that Gaza’s population, numbering nearly two million, is facing widespread hunger amid a collapse in humanitarian aid due to the blockade imposed by Israel in early March.
According to the newspaper, for more than two months, Israel has prevented the entry of food, medicine, and other needed supplies into the Strip, in an attempt, it said, to pressure Hamas.
