LONDON, May 17 (YPA) – The Oxford Group Against Genocide (OAG) set up a protest camp outside Magdalen College, Oxford University, following a march that began on Friday.
Sources told the British newspaper Cherwell that the group, which includes around 100 protesters, considered itself “a new collective dedicated to liberating Palestine through direct action,” according to a statement posted on Instagram.
During their movement, the protesters blocked part of the main road while crossing the Magdalen Bridge towards the college, where they set up tents to the left of the guards’ gate.
Flags, including the Republic of Ireland flag, were raised on the walls surrounding the college, and some protesters used megaphones to address the participants, chanting slogans critical of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s policies.
According to the British newspaper, the demonstrators’ participation came as part of a coalition that includes national organizations such as Socialist Worker and Friends of Al-Aqsa, while Oxford for Palestine (OA4P) was not part of the movement, but in a press release, it confirmed the existence of “common goals” on this issue.
