TEHRAN, April 29 (YPA) – A spokesman for Iran’s Crisis Management Center said it could take 20 days to extinguish the fire at the country’s largest port.
Meanwhile, officials said firefighters had brought the blaze at the Rajaee Port under control on Saturday, following a powerful explosion that authorities attributed to “negligence.”
On Tuesday morning, live television footage showed thick smoke rising from containers stacked at the Rajaee Port in southern Iran, where the explosion left at least 70 dead and hundreds injured.
Hossein Zafari, a spokesman for the Crisis Management Organization, told the ILNA news agency that it could take 15 to 20 days to fully extinguish the fire at the Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, given the nature of the containers.
He explained that the process includes opening the containers, cooling them, and completely extinguishing the fire with water before transporting them.
Zafari indicated a significant improvement in the situation, confirming that the fire was under control and that its remaining hotspots were being contained, although smoke continued to emanate from some fire-resistant containers.
