SWEDEN, April 20 (YPA) – Hundreds of people took part in a demonstration in support of Palestine and condemning the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on Saturday in the Swedish capital Stockholm.
In a protest rally, the participants gathered in the Odenplan district of Stockholm and waved the Palestinian flags, chatting: “There is a massacre in Palestine,” “Freedom is near,” “There is genocide in Gaza,” and “An urgent and indefinite ceasefire in Gaza.”
The protesters marched to the Swedish parliament, chanting slogans such as “The Palestinian people are not alone” and “Raise your voices for Palestine.”
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Swedish activist Malin Maria Åkerman, who participated in the demonstration, said she has been participating in pro-Palestine demonstrations every week since 2023.
Åkerman continued to say: “There is a horrific famine due to the prevention of humanitarian aid from reaching Palestine.”
“The Western world is shocked by what US President Donald Trump is doing. The root of all evil is the United States,” she added. “It has sponsored Israel’s occupation of Palestine and is funding the genocide in Gaza.”
Åkerman noted that Western media outlets have taken a biased stance toward the massacre in Palestine. She explained, “Although what Israel is doing in Palestine is genocide, Western media outlets describe it as a war between two countries. This is how Swedish public television and radio present the news to their readers.”
The American-supported Israeli occupation has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving almost 168,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 14,000 missing.
