BRUSSEL, Oct. 27 (YPA) – Sixty members of the European Parliament have called on the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, to convene an urgent meeting of EU Foreign Ministers to agree on imposing sanctions on the Israeli government.
The MEPs, from various political groups, sent a letter to Kallas urging her to take action regarding the escalation of Israeli aggression in the West Bank, pointing out that Tel Aviv imposed a siege on the West Bank after the killing of two soldiers in Hebron on October 23, in actions that constitute collective punishment and a war crime.
They emphasized that the Israeli government demolished Palestinian homes in Hebron, giving residents only five minutes to evacuate, with the aim of entrenching its illegal occupation and increasing tensions ahead of the elections.
They demanded condemnation of the occupation’s actions and called for its withdrawal from the West Bank. They criticized the EU’s double standards and called for a proposal to completely suspend the partnership agreement with Israel.
