HADRAMOUT, April 12 (YPA) – Hadramout province, eastern Yemen, witnessed a large tribal mobilization on Saturday at a meeting called by the head of the tribal alliance, Amr bin Habrish, who is loyal to Saudi Arabia, in the Al-Hadhbah area of Ghayl Bawazir District.
This gathering came in response to the increasing Emirati movements in the province, amid the competition between Saudi Arabia and the UAE for control of its oil and mineral wealth.
In his speech to the tribes, bin Habrish expressed that Hadramout has chosen the path of self-rule, emphasizing the need for the people of the province to manage its affairs, free from interference from parties loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, while clearly rejecting the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).
Bin Habrish, who recently returned from Riyadh, revealed that Hadramout would witness a qualitative shift in the areas of services, security, and recruitment, in addition to what he described as “determining its political destiny.”
He added that Saudi Arabia stands with the people of Hadramout, regardless of the dominance of the pro-coalition parties (the STC, the General People’s Congress, and the Islah Party), noting that “we will not allow this unless our martyrs return to life.”
This coincided with an unprecedented tribal and military escalation in Hadramout, with the continued heavy mobilization of forces loyal to the UAE and Saudi Arabia, which portends heightened tensions.
This came after “the Southern Resistance,” the arm of the STC in Hadramout, issued a statement warning against any suspicious movements by the tribal alliance, affirming its readiness to confront attempts to seize control of coastal districts under the influence of UAE-backed factions.
