GAZA, April 12 (YPA) – Over 60,000 children under the age of five in the Gaza Strip are suffering from malnutrition, as the flow of humanitarian aid has been halted since the second half of March.
This came in a statements made by Sigrid Kaag, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and Humanitarian Coordinator for Gaza, to the Turkish Anadolu Agency on the sidelines of the fourth Antalya Diplomatic Forum held in southern Turkey.
She affirmed that the humanitarian situation in the besieged Gaza Strip is deteriorating, in light of the absence of an adequate international response, noting that humanitarian workers are now lacking basic equipment, while the fuel needed to operate hospitals has run out, disrupting aid delivery efforts.
Kaag warned that Israeli attacks not only target civilians but also terrorize relief workers, the majority of whom are Palestinians, describing the conditions as terrifying.
The UN warning comes as Gaza faces one of the world’s worst humanitarian disasters, amid ongoing Israeli military operations and the lack of safe corridors for the entry of food, medicine, and fuel, threatening to exacerbate the suffering, particularly among children, women, and the elderly.
