Thousands in Finland call for boycott of Israeli occupation

HELSINKI, March 24 (YPA) – More than 10,000 people in Finland on Monday called on the country’s public broadcasting authority (YLE) to pressure the Israeli occupation to be banned from the Eurovision Song Contest due to the war in Gaza.

One petition was signed by more than 500 music and culture professionals, while the second petition collected more than 10,000 signatures.

Less than two months before the start of Eurovision, one of the world’s largest annual live television competitions, which is being held this year in Basel, Switzerland, the signatories called on the Finnish public broadcaster to withdraw the Finnish contestant from the competition if the occupation to participate.

Last year, thousands protested in the Swedish city of Malmö against the occupation’s participation in the event.
