KHARTOUM, March 22 (YPA) – The Sudanese Army has expanded its control over the capital, Khartoum, after defeating the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) at the Presidential Palace.
Media sources reported on Saturday that the Sudanese Army took control of the country’s central bank headquarters, while advancing through the capital against the RSF.
This comes a day after the Sudanese Army fully seized the Presidential Palace, marking a new turning point in the ongoing two-year conflict with the RSF, which has threatened to divide Sudan.
Brig. Gen. Nabil Abdullah, a spokesperson for the Sudanese military, said troops expelled the Rapid Support Forces from the headquarters of the National Intelligence Service and Corinthia Hotel in central Khartoum.
The military also retook the headquarters of the Central Bank of Sudan and other government and educational buildings in the area, Abdullah said. Hundreds of RSF fighters were killed while trying to flee the capital city, he said.
Abdullah also announced the army’s control over several ministries in the city center after fierce clashes with the RSF.
The RSF had quickly captured the palace and most of the capital when the war broke out in April 2023, but the army has gradually advanced toward the palace in recent months, moving slowly along the Nile River.
The RSF has been accused of committing numerous massacres against the Sudanese people during the two-year war, with support and complicity from several countries, particularly the UAE.
