TAIZ, Feb. 22 (YPA) -The authorities loyal to Saudi-led coalition in Taiz province, announced a ban on protests, demonstrations, and marches, condemning the economic collapse, following angry protests calling for the departure of the coalition.
Pro-coalition local authorities said on Friday that they will enforce the so-called “Demonstrations and Marches Law” to limit protests against the coalition-backed government.
These protests, known as the “Hunger Revolution”, have been ongoing since last January in response to the catastrophic collapse of the local currency, rising prices, and unprecedented economic deterioration.
Pro-coalition authorities emphasized the need to obtain an official permit three days before the protests begin, a move that has sparked significant criticism from local unions and political groups.
The so-called “Taiz Police,” under the control of the Islah Party, threatened to launch a campaign of arrests against anyone who violates these instructions and subject them to strict measures.
It is also worth noting that teachers in Taiz have been on strike for the sixth consecutive week, demanding the payment of their overdue salaries and improvements to their living conditions.
