IOM: Returnees to their areas in Gaza live in miserable conditions

GENEVA, Feb. 22 (YPA) – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that the people of Gaza are suffering from tragic conditions, with a near absence of basic services.

This was stated following a visit by its Director, Amy Pope, and the Humanitarian Coordinator, Muhannad Hadi.

The organization explained that 90% of homes were destroyed, and hundreds of thousands are homeless, noting that returnees find rubble instead of their homes. It stressed the intensification of efforts to provide shelter assistance in cooperation with the United Nations and its partners.

Since January 19, the organization has provided support in the areas of shelter, water, health, and hygiene. Pope described the extent of the destruction as “astonishing,” highlighting the suffering of families who lost everything and live without means of protection or services.

The statement also added that American support enabled “Israel” between October 7, 2023, and January 19, 2025, to commit genocide in Gaza, resulting in more than 160,000 dead and wounded, most of them women and children, and about 14,000 missing.
