Foreign intelligence officers arrive in Yemen’s Socotra Island

SOCOTRA, Feb. 22 (YPA) – UAE-backed factions were deployed heavily near Hadibu Airport, the main center of the Yemeni Socotra Archipelago, on Friday ahead of the arrival of Emirati and foreign officers.

The road leading to the UAE forces headquarters also witnessed military checkpoints reinforced to secure their passage, while the motives for the visit were not known.

The move came after airport employees protested against the Emirati “Eastern Triangle Company” taking over its management. The company, owned by Emirati intelligence officer Saeed Al-Kaabi, has expanded its influence on the island after taking control of the seaports in recent months.

Activists from Socotra and Yemen have accused the company of carrying out suspicious activities that threaten Yemen’s security and sovereignty in the absence of any action by the Presidential Leadership Council or the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition.
