UAE-backed STC forces open fire on peaceful protesters in Aden

ADEN, Feb. 16 (YPA) – Members of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), opened fire on a peaceful protest in the Al-Hamra checkpoint in the center of Aden, in an attempt to disperse protesters demanding the improvement of the deterioration of  living conditions.

Today, local sources in the city confirmed that the STC’s members fired live bullets at the protesters to disperse them as they passed through the Al-Hamra checkpoint, located between the Khor Maksar and Mualla districts.

No casualties have been reported.

The sources added that the forces assaulted a disabled youth who was moving in a wheelchair, in a scene that embodies the brutality of the repression practiced by the forces against the people of Aden.

The STC factions launched a wide arrest and abduction campaign for the fourth consecutive day, targeting many participants in the protests calling for better living conditions and an end to the economic collapse.

The protest called on the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition to improve the  living conditions, curb the catastrophic collapse of the local currency, provide essential services such as electricity and water, and stabilize prices amid the ongoing devaluation of the Yemeni riyal against foreign currencies.
