ADEN, Feb. 05 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions have imposed the military control over Martyrs Square in the Mansoura area of Aden city, south of Yemen, to prevent a protest rally denouncing the collapse of essential services.
Human rights sources said the STC’s elements on military vehicles arrived on Tuesday and dispersed a gathering of the so-called “Civil Coordination Youth” and prevented them from organizing the rally demanding electricity and water services to improve.
The sources considered the STC’s repressive practices against the people of Aden as irresponsible actions without solutions to the stifling crises in the city, indicating that the STC’s members became a tool of repression serving the corrupt to prevent any movements calling for the improvement of service conditions.
They explained that confronting popular anger rallies with force and intimidation would only make the people of Aden stronger, amid calls in all areas of Aden to protests and reject what they called “terrorist practices”.
Aden city is witnessing escalating protests with the worsening economic crises and the collapse of basic services, which portends a wave of widespread protests that may be met with greater violence from the STC, which ignores the demands of the Aden people and the rest of the southern provinces to live in dignity.
