ABYAN, Aug. 07 (YPA) – Unknown gunmen, believed to be affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s factions, hijacked a bus belonging to the Wahda Cement Factory in Abyan province, southern Yemen.
Local sources reported that four armed men riding a motorcycle intercepted the bus carrying employees and workers of the cement factory in the Al-Jawal area of Zinjibar on Wednesday.
The gunmen forced the driver at gunpoint to hand over the vehicle.
The sources added that the gunmen waved their weapons at the employees, ordering them off the bus, bearing license plate 42915/3, and then took the vehicle to an unknown destination amid widespread insecurity sweeping the province.
This incident came after a series of attacks targeting employees and workers of the Wahda Cement Factory in the Batis area. The most recent assault last week left two workers wounded after gunmen opened fire on one of the factory’s buses.
Additionally, another factory bus was destroyed last month when it was doused with gasoline and set on fire; the perpetrators are still unidentified.
