About 6,000 wounded in Gaza get prepared to travel abroad

GAZA, Feb. 02 (YPA) – About 6,000 wounded in Gaza will be prepared to travel abroad for receive medical treatment.

This came during a statement made on Sunday by director general of hospitals at the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, Mohammed Zaqout.

He revealed that more than six thousand cases, including patients and wounded victims of the recent Israeli aggression, would travel outside the Gaza Strip to receive medical treatment.

Zaqout’s statements also came in conjunction with arrangements for the departure of 46 patients and wounded people and their companions from the Gaza Strip, through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, on the second day of the crossing’s operation after the ceasefire agreement in Gaza went into force.

He spoke about many critical and intractable medical cases, which therefore require urgent medical interventions that are not available in the hospitals of the sector, noting that a technical committee had been reviewing these cases to follow up on their medical transfers for months.

“More than 12,000 patients and wounded are in dire need of treatment abroad in light of the weak capabilities of Gaza hospitals and the collapse of the health system as a result of the continuous Israeli targeting of it during the genocidal war on the Strip that lasted more than 15 months,” Zaqout added.

According to the terms of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which came into effect on January 19, 2025, 50 wounded and patients and their companions would be allowed to leave Gaza daily, through the Rafah crossing.
