Indonesia announces its plan to build 100 mosques in Gaza Strip

JAKARTA, Jan. 29 (YPA) – The Indonesian Mosques Council announced on Tuesday that it intends to build 100 mosques in the Gaza Strip in Palestine to meet the urgent needs of the Strip’s residents, especially with the approaching month of Ramadan.

Former Indonesian Vice President and Chairman of the Mosques Council Muhammad Jusuf Kalla emphasized the importance of informing the Indonesian community about the humanitarian situation in Gaza, as over a thousand mosques have been destroyed by Israeli attacks during the past year and a half.

Kalla explained that the initial plan includes building ten semi-permanent mosques as a first step, with the total number to reach 100 later, expressing his hope that worshippers in Indonesia would contribute a portion of their zakat and charity, ranging from 5 to 10 percent of their financial means, to support this project.

He added that the council coordinated with the relevant authorities in Gaza to determine the mechanisms for implementing the construction process.

Kalla called on worshipers in Indonesia to actively participate in this program, given the extensive damage to homes and mosques in Gaza as a result of the ongoing conflict.
