New company acquires the most important oil sector in Shabwa

SHABWA, Jan. 22 (YPA) – The Oil Exploration and Production Authority of the coalition government issued a memorandum to the Minister of Oil, Saeed Al-Shamasi, confirming the selection of Blue Sky Company as the new operator of the S2 Al-Aqla sector in Shabwa after the end of the contract of the Austrian company OMV.

The Authority wondered about the next steps that the company could take, indicating that it was empowered in the oil sector based on personal correspondence between Minister Al-Shamasi and the company’s management without being subject to any official conditions or procedures.

The Authority asked the company to provide clarifications on its readiness to work in the Aqla sector in the Armah directorate, amidst local observers’ doubts about the company’s inability to operate the sector and deal with it due to the current circumstances.

OMV left the Al-Aqla S2 sector at the end of 2024, after dismissing nearly 200 Yemeni employees without paying their dues and evading its societal obligations to the people of Shabwa and the catastrophic state of environmental pollution in the governorate.
