Recruit killed, four others wounded in Abyan ambush

ABYAN, Aug. 07 (YPA) – About five recruits from the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s factions were killed and wounded on Thursday in a surprise ambush in Abyan province, southern Yemen.

A local source familiar with the matter said al-Qaeda militants targeted a STC military vehicle at the Orma Junction in Mudiyah district, killing one recruit and wounding four others, some of whom were described as critical.

The source stated that several STC’s military vehicles headed to the scene of the ambush, accompanied by ambulances, to transport the wounded for treatment.

It added that the terrorist elements remotely detonated the explosive device that was being planted next to the road while the vehicle was passing.

The STC factions in Mudiyah district have suffered heavy human and material losses since announcing their control over Islah camps in Abyan, as part of the so-called “Arrows of the East” operation, following their takeover of Shabwa in August 2022.
