UAE seeks to block unilateral Saudi decision in Hadramout, warns of confrontation

HADRAMOUT, Jan. 05 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia is decisively moving toward the dismissal of Mabkhout bin Madi, Hadramout province’s governor supported by the Saudi-led coalition, amidst ongoing tensions with the UAE over control of oil-rich regions in eastern Yemen.

In media statements relayed by the coalition-affiliated outlets, Saeed Ahmed Al-Mohammadi, head of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) branch in Hadramout, firmly rejected any new appointments issued by Saudi Arabia without prior agreement on the selection of a new governor.

Al-Mohammedi noted that decisions to replace leadership within the “First Military Region,” affiliated with the Islah Party, are “ineffective” and unlikely to lead to meaningful change on the ground.

He further warned that disregarding the views of the STC could result in security instability, potentially plunging Hadramout into highly complex situations.

Concluding his statements, Al-Mohammedi issued a clear warning to the coalition-backed “Presidential Leadership Council,” emphasizing the importance of respecting what he described as the “rights and aspirations of Hadramout people.” He also hinted at a possible confrontation if these demands continue to be ignored.
