Iraqi army redeploys to border areas with Syria

SANAA, Jan. 04 (YPA) – The commander of the Iraqi army’s ground forces, Qasim al-Muhammadi, said on Saturday that units from the Ministry of Defense and elements of the Popular Mobilization Forces had redeployed to areas bordering Syria.

Al-Muhammadi added that the border areas extending from the border city of Al-Qaim, reaching the Iraqi-Syrian-Jordanian triangle, witnessed the deployment of elements of the Popular Mobilization Forces and soldiers from the Iraqi army, in addition to the establishment of a line of defense between the Al-Qaim and Rutba regions in the west of the country.

Al-Muhammadi pointed out that the security forces succeeded in completely eliminating the terrorist elements present in the Wadi Al-Tharthar area, through air strikes.
