Angry protesters against coalition cut streets in Aden

ADEN, Jan. 02 (YPA) – Angry protesters took to the streets on Thursday, shutting down several main roads in the city of Aden, which is under the Saudi-led coalition’s control, to voice their frustration over the deterioration of public services.

The demonstrators set fire to worn-out tires and scattered stones across streets in areas like Sheikh Othman and Al-Mansoura, including the Aden-Taiz road.

The unrest was triggered by extended power outages, with electricity cut off for more than 13 consecutive hours, leaving residents with only a single hour of supply.

These blackouts followed the near-complete shutdown of power stations last week.

Despite continued appeals from electricity authorities in Aden, Lahj, Abyan, and Shabwa provinces, neither the coalition-aligned government nor leaders of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council have taken steps to address the worsening crisis.
