STOCKHOLM, Jan. 01 (YPA) – Hundreds of Swedes canceled their New Year’s Eve celebrations in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, in protest against the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, organizing a demonstration in support of the Palestinian cause.
Pro-Palestine demonstrators gathered yesterday, Tuesday, in Segels Torg Square, despite the cold weather, in response to a call from several Swedish NGOs.
Instead of celebrating the New Year, the participants expressed their solidarity with Palestinian children and civilians who have fallen victim to the genocidal war that the Israeli occupation state has been committing against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.
The protesters led a march towards the Swedish parliament, carrying banners calling for an end to the genocide in the Gaza Strip, such as “Free Palestine, Free Gaza,” “Stop the genocide,” and “Boycott Israel.”
In a statement read by the demonstrators, they said they chose not to celebrate New Year’s Eve because of the genocide being committed against Palestinians, especially children, women and journalists, noting that American support for the Israeli occupation contributes to the continuation of these crimes.
