LAHJ, Nov. 3 (YPA) – Saudi forces have ordered the urgent withdrawal of military equipment and heavy weapons from Al-Anad Air Base, Yemen’s largest military base, amid growing alarm over the reported advance of Sanaa forces in districts surrounding the base, military and local sources in Lahj province said on Tuesday.
The sources said Saudi-backed “Dera Al-Watan” forces had already begun a large-scale evacuation operation to clear weapons and ammunition depots belonging to brigades stationed at the base and transport their contents to Aden.
The urgent Saudi moves came after Sanaa forces reportedly established near-total control over the districts of al-Maqatirah, Tur al-Bahah, al-Mudharabah and Ras al-Arah.
The sources said the developments had placed the strategic Al-Anad base within direct firing range, prompting Saudi-backed forces to dismantle their military positions amid fears that Sanaa forces could advance closer to the base.
