SHABWA, Nov. 30 (YPA) – UAE-backed militias stormed a house of a security official in Ataq, the capital of Shabwa Governorate in eastern Yemen.
Human rights sources stated that “members of the 2nd Shabwa Defense Brigade” raided the house of Lieutenant Salem Khamis Muhren, the director of inspection and auditing department at the Civil Status Office in Shabwa, without any legal reason or directive from the concerned authorities.
The sources added that Muhren confronted the armed men during the raid, which took place while his family was present.
The raid was allegedly conducted under the pretext of arresting a wanted individual, which led to intervention by leaders loyal to the Southern Transitional Council (STC).
It was also clarified that Muhren was brought to the Director General of Police to address the situation, and the raid was linked to a corruption case that he had previously reported.
The case involved the illegal collection of 4,000 riyals for every civil status card issued in Shabwa, with the funds being funneled to influential figures, including the security director.
The sources highlighted that the UAE-backed factions freed Muhren following intervention by Sheikh Lasoud Ali Lahmar, the leader of the STC branch in the governorate.
Later, The Shabwa Defense factions claimed that they had intended to raid the house next to Lieutenant Muhren’s but had broken the door to the courtyard, sparking anger among the locals.
