ABYAN, Oct. 26 (YPA) – Tribal gunmen in Yemen’s southern province of Abyan on Saturday staged roadblocks in three areas to demand the release of detainees and forcibly disappeared in prisons of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Aden city.
Dozens of armed tribesmen blocked the main roads in the Bakazim area of Al-Mahfad district, in Duthina area, and in the coastal Ahwar district in protest against the STC factions’ continued concealment and detention of a number of tribesmen in Aden prisons without trial or any charges against them.
Abyan tribes halted the passage of trucks and gas tankers from Marib and Hadramout provinces towards Aden city, demanding the release of kidnapped and detainees or legal trial of them if charges are filed.
Anis Al-Sharik, the head of the Al-Rased Foundation for Human Rights, confirmed that 80% of those abducted and forcibly disappeared in Aden prisons since August 2019 are from Abyan tribes.
