Aden government plans to sell most important oil sector in Shabwa

SHABWA, Oct. 15 (YPA) – The Austrian company OMV, which operates in al-Uqla oil sector (S2) of Shabwa province, is scheduled to withdraw from Yemen at the end of 2024 and hand it over to the Ministry of Oil in the coalition-backed Aden government.

The Austrian step raised serious concerns about the future of the oil sector in Yemen, especially after the over Sector 5-Jannah Hunt handed over to the PetroMasila Company, which some experts considered a disastrous decision from a technical standpoint.

The great risk is posed by the Aden government selling oil fields to fictitious companies due to the lack of technical and technological expertise necessary to manage such a vital industry, which comes amidst widespread corruption and manipulation of tenders for personal interests that benefit the Saudi-firmed Presidential Leadership Council, led by Rashad al-Alimi, to the exclusion of others.

Oil experts and specialists call on to prevent these disastrous and dangerous steps that would affect the future of the oil sector in Yemen, especially the Ministry of Oil in the coalition-funded government does not follow any clear and transparent standards for specialized companies.
