ADEN, May 12 (YPA) – A mysterious fire broke out on Tuesday inside one of the most vital facilities of the Central Bank, affiliated with the Saudi-backed government in Aden, southern Yemen.
The blaze resulted in severe material and technical damage, primarily targeting the “archives” and the power system.
The flames consumed large sections of the archives, leading to the loss of documents and records described as “highly significant.” The fire spread to the main generator and its cabling, causing a partial paralysis of the building’s electrical operating system. Sources reported that firefighting teams arrived late, only after the fire had already destroyed a vast quantity of records.
While the Central Bank administration has yet to reveal the official cause, the incident has triggered a wave of mutual accusations between “Islah Party” and the “dissolved” Southern Transitional Council (STC) activists. Growing suspicions suggest the fire was a “deliberate act” aimed at destroying sensitive records.
A technical committee has begun assessing the final damages and evaluating losses, coinciding with efforts to restore the bank’s operational stability.
