MOSCOW, Oct. 10 (YPA) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergey Vershinin, said that the UN Security Council was unable to take steps to stop the bloodshed and violence in the Gaza Strip because of the United States.
“This is very sad and undermines the reputation of the United Nations,” he added at a press conference in the Russian capital, Moscow.
Referring to the situation in the Middle East, he said: “A ceasefire in Gaza must be ensured, and the security of all countries in the region, including Israel, must be ensured.”
Vershinin warned that the region may be on the verge of moving into a large-scale regional war.
In his assessment of the American approach to the Middle East, he stated that the Americans
used the veto power against many resolutions related to Gaza in the UN Security Council, adding that this approach was not constructive.
The Russian official pointed to the need to renew and expand the Security Council, saying: “There is a need for renewal that takes into account the positions of many countries.”
