Violent clashes erupt among coalition factions in Taiz

TAIZ, Sept. 30 (YPA) – Violent clashes erupted on Monday among the armed factions that the coalition forces are backing in Al-Waziyah area, west of Taiz province.

Local sources said that the confrontations broke out between the forces of the UAE-funded Tariq Afash, nephew of former president Al Abdullah Saleh, and armed groups from Al-Subaiha tribes in Lahj province, south of Yemen.

The sources explained that both parties have tried to impose their control over the security point in the Dharifah Triangle in Al Waziyah due to its great importance in terms of the large financial returns from smugglers and others, no any material or human losses reported.

Al-Waziyah’s sons appealed to the sheikhs and dignitaries of the Subaiha tribes to intervene to put an end to the expansion of Afash’s forces before the situation worsens into a spiral of fighting and chaos, amid armed tribal mobilizations.

The clashes come in the context of the security chaos sweeping the coalition-held southern areas, which are witnessing multiple conflicts between the various factions formed by the UAE and Saudi Arabia on regional grounds, in order to enhance their influence in southern Yemen.
