UNICEF stresses need for ceasefire, enabling of humanitarian aid to Gaza

GAZA, Sept. 20 (YPA) – UNICEF Deputy Executive Director, Ted Chaiban, stressed the need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, an end to the targeting and maiming of children, and the enabling of humanitarian aid to reach the Strip.

In a press statement, the UN official urged the need to protect children, improve security measures and operating procedures for humanitarian workers, and facilitate the movement of children separated from their families.

The statement pointed out that the accumulation of untreated waste and unsanitary conditions has led to an increased risk of disease, especially with families resorting to digging through garbage in search of cooking materials.

It reported that the flow of humanitarian aid has decreased significantly, as truck entry operations reduced from 100 trucks per day in August to only 15 trucks in September due to security concerns.
