Music bands boycott UK’s Victorious Festival in solidarity with Palestine

PORTSMOUTH, Aug. 25 (YPA) – Several bands have boycotted the Victorious Music Festival in Britain, after Irish band Mary Wallops said they were banned from performing for waving the Palestinian flag and chanting “Free Palestine.”

Last Dinner Party, Cliffords, and Academic announced their withdrawal from the Portsmouth festival on Saturday.

Last Dinner Party said in a statement on Instagram that they were “outraged” by the decision to silence Mary Wallops, stressing that they cannot support political censorship.

The band added, “While the people of Gaza are deliberately forced into a catastrophic famine… it is necessary and natural that artists use their platforms to draw attention to this issue.”

The band also called on their fans to donate to the Palestinian Medical Aid Foundation and concluded their statement with the words “Free Palestine.”
