Putin approves strategic partnership agreement with Iran

WORLD, Sept. 19 (YPA) -Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved of a proposal forwarded by the country’s foreign ministry for signing of a strategic partnership agreement with Iran.

“The proposal of the Russian Foreign Ministry, agreed with the interested federal government bodies and organizations, to sign a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran has been accepted,” according to document was published on the official website of Russia’s legal information system on Wednesday evening.

The decree stated that signing of such an agreement would be “expedient,” without specifying the timing of its expected conclusion.

In July, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani indicated that Russia plays a role in transforming Iran into a regional energy hub, with Russian gas being shipped through Iran to other parts of the world.

The Iranian official emphasized the strategic relations between Moscow and Tehran, noting that both countries are working to enhance their trade ties.

In June, Russian energy giant Gazprom signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) to supply Russian pipeline gas to Iran.
