UN Secretary-General: “Pager explosions” heralds major military operation
NEW YORK, Sept. 18 (YPA) – The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, said on Wednesday that the explosion of thousands of pager devices in Lebanon heralds a “major military operation,” stressing that there is a “serious risk of dramatic escalation” in Lebanon.
Guterres’s warnings were accompanied by international positions warning of the deterioration of the situation between the Israeli occupation and Hezbollah following the unprecedented “security breach” carried out by the Israeli occupation into Hezbollah’s radio communications equipment, which led to 2,800 injuries and 12 deaths.
This comes in light of the continued Israeli threats of expanded war to return the displaced residents of the north.
During a press conference at the international organization’s headquarters in New York, Guterres described it as “a particularly dangerous event, not only because of the number of victims who fell in it but also because of indications that explosions occurred.”
He warned that “the clear logic behind detonating all these devices is to do so as a pre-emptive strike before a major military operation.”
