Eight people killed, injured in clashes between Saudi-funded forces, tribes in Lahj

LAHJ, Sept. 01 (YPA) – Nearly eight people were killed and injured in an armed attack launched by Saudi-funded “Dera Al-Watan” forces on the Al-Hawasheb area in the Radfan District of Lahj province, which is controlled by factions of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).

Informed sources confirmed that the “Dera Al-Watan” factions led by Osama al-Radfani proceeded with establishing a camp for themselves in Jabal al-Zaytouna in Al-Quraisha area owned by the Al-Hawasheb people, as a result of which disputes broke out and developed into armed clashes on Saturday.

Members of Dera Al-Watan used various light and medium weapons in their attack on the people of Al-Hawasheb, which required cutting the way for Saudi reinforcements and besieging the rest of the vehicles in the area.

The sources indicated that armed tensions between the two parties still exist.

Observers believe that Saudi Arabia has moved to limit the spread of the STC factions in the Lahj and Aden districts, in addition to Hadramout, following the decision to form the Dera Al-Watan forces by the head of the president of the presidential leadership council loyal to Saudi-led coalition, Rashad Al-Alimi, early last year, 2023.
