STC leader reveals previous American tendencies towards Yemen

ADEN, Aug. 21 (YPA) – A prominent leader in the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) has revealed dangerous positions of the American side regarding the unity of Yemen.

Lutfi Shatara, a leader in the STC, said in a post on his account on the (X) platform on Wednesday, “A former American diplomat, whose name I keep, said to me 19 years ago in Washington, ‘The success of your cause depends on your adherence to your land and your neighbors’.”

Shatara’s statements come days after confessions published by the security services in Sanaa of the cell accused of spying for American intelligence, which revealed that the United States had been seeking, since before the 2011 revolution, to divide Yemen.

There are many American positions that confirm Washington’s efforts to divide Yemen, including previous statements by the US envoy to Yemen, Tim Linder King, during which he made it clear that “the United States is not against any trends decided by the Yemenis regarding Yemen remaining a unified state,” in a clear message to support secession efforts.

In his post, Shatara criticized the disputes that the STC is creating with Saudi Arabia, saying, “Harming the neighbors harms the cause… We must be consistent with the size of the project we carry and the size of the positions of our allies.”

Shatara’s advice to the STC comes in light of the escalation of conflicts between Saudi Arabia and the UAE, on the basis of which the STC took a position hostile to Riyadh in favor of Abu Dhabi, which is considered the main supporter of the Transitional Council.

At the conclusion of his post, Shatara said, “The mentality that lost the south will not be able to restore it if we follow the same path,” in a clear accusation against the UAE-backed STC.
